I bumped my '84 Speemaster against the clear coat of my car and put a pretty good scratch on it. Here's a photo: Scratch is above the 3 on the hour sub-dial. I have no depth of field here, so only the scratch is in focus. I tried my new favorite polish on it: Meguiar's Swirl Remover on a Dremel. Didn't work; the scratch was too deep.I have finally put a decent scratch on the hesalite of my Omega Speedmaster. In this tutorial, I will cover everything you need to remove scratches and resto.

Being one to keep my watches pretty much mint, this could be a problem. Being OCD though, sometimes just changing your mindset about something can make a world of difference. As mentioned, being a form of plastic, hesalite is not scratch-resistant. Over time, it will get scratches when worn. Deep scratches require some more pressure, but lighter scratches will appear regardless. Hesalite scratches very easily whereas sapphire is hard so it won't scratch but more likely to shatter. Hesalite is what they used to go the moon. Means nothing to me.
